Tami and Tom Crowley Help Expand Ogden's Cultural Boundries

By Robert Zamaro

Tami and Tom Crowley might be a bit busier these days since opening Artists & Heirlooms in the summer of 2004 in Ogden. But all the hard work has its rewards.

"We love what we do," Tami said, "and yes, it is a lot to do, but its fun. Some great people come through here and we work with some of the best dealers and artists in the city."

Stephen Hegdepeth, Bruce Case, Arron Fritz, Darlene Hamblin, Gary Bateman, Valerie Hutchens, Lauri Eskelson, and Suzanne Storer are a few of the artists exhibiting their work at the upscale gallery.

The antiques that are displayed are spread out on the main and bottom floors neatly arranged, and with everything open for inspection. You’ll find Roseville pottery, sterling silver, fine crystal, elegant dinnerware, and hard-to- find collectibles. The bottom floor is loaded with vintage decor and things you can’t live without.

The second floor is devoted entirely to art. It has a warm and pleasing ambience that is generated in a large part by its rustic brick walls, wooden stairs, and high ceilings, which make it fun and memorable when shopping and exploring for treasures.

Tami said she feels right at home with all the art and antiques. "They fit together," she said. "We’ve been collecting local art and antiques for years, so we feel right at home here."

Tami said her years of visiting art galleries and antique stores helped her visualize what she could do with her own gallery and those ideas seem to be working for her now.

By all accounts, the Crowleys are succeeding in offering local art and antiques in Ogden as their store has become a regular destination for collectors.

The Crowleys, along with Janet Peters and Suzy Dailey, are founding members of the Ogden Arts Festival, an event that will undoubtedly be observed annually for decades to come.

Tami said, "Helping to establish an Ogden tradition is something I never thought I would do." The annual event, held at Union Station, provides local artists an opportunity to showcase their talents. It features a Plein Air Paint Out Competition, music, food, and lots of fun.

Tami said. "It’s a lot of work to pull off the event, but it has its rewards."
